Russia’s population declined by more than one million people in 2021, the statistics agency Rosstat reported Friday.
On average to sustain its current population a country must have a fertility rate of 2.1 and Russia’s fertility rate has been dropped to 1.5, which tells us that the Russian fertility rate is less and is worrisome for Russia. The average Russian age is near about 40 which can lead to an acute labour shortage in future.
Russia’s shrinking population has been at the top of President Vladimir Putin’s domestic agenda and a question for President Vladimir Putin’s government that what action is going to be taken to stop Russia’s declining population.
